Have you done any “new things” for 2015? I did the “Cube”!

100_6264I had blogged about doing at least one new thing a week in a blog earlier this year, and I wanted to see if you tried any new things this year yet!?

I found it was easier to do one new thing a week than expected. It came naturally, and I noticed that it gave me a positive charge when I did it! The new experiences were fun, exciting and sometimes simply new and different than my normal routine.

One of the new things was going onto the cube at the top of the Sears Tower. When I first heard about the “cube” I didn’t think it would be a big deal at all, but when I was up there and as I very slowly inched my way out onto the clear sheet of plastic, I was really quite scared!!!! I didn’t want to let my daughter know how scared I was, because she is naturally so brave, and I don’t want to spoil any of that within her with my fear of heights etc. We had so much fun doing different poses and per the picture, Ireland made herself quite comfortable!

I had been up to the top of the Sears tower one other time 18 years ago with a special newcomer to our great city, so going up to the top counted as well since it had been over 10 years=-)

Laverty Life Link: Notice what it feels like when you do something new—how is it different than you expected, what emotions do you feel and how can you share that with someone in your life so you can keep the dialogue going on doing “new things” and what impact that has on you?

I dare me—you—US!? Happy New Year!=-)

I read a wonderful little memoir called “I Dare Me!” by Lu Ann Cahn about how she did something new every day for a year.  It was a fun little read, and it inspired me to think about getting out there and doing, being, choosing differently.

I am committed to one new thing a week which is only 52 “new things” in a year which felt VERY doable to me, almost easy!  Some simple changes from my first week made a difference fIMG_3366or me….I enjoyed a ton of new classes at a new workout center for the week–loved my new yoga, spinning and strength teachers…energizing!

I “let” my daughter go downhill skiing for the first time and she just conquered those hills with her usual grace and grit, and I said some extra prayers that day=-)  She’s my inspiration every day bc she does something new pretty much every day and her life reflects that passion and “joie de vivre”.

The list goes on, nothing life changing per se, but moment changing perhaps which leads to life changing….Here’s to a wonderful 2015!

Laverty’s Life Link:  Think about small, medium even large things you could choose differently each day and see how it feels…feel free to share your experiences with others and pass the inspiration forward=-)  Love, Tracy and truly–happy, peaceful new year to you…..

A TV, a Hope and a Prayer….Only God knows how it happened

I will be revealing a bit about myself in this blog, and it is too funny and amazing not to share….So we have a TV from 1992–we don’t watch much TV, so it is fine for the occasional DVD movie etc.  I do a thing called Freecycle where you can give and receive things for free (it is AMAZING by the way!!!! I highly recommend the yahoo group=-).  A nice lady offered a 2002 Toshiba TV, and she clearly said it is too big for women to carry, and I would need 2 men to c100_5380arry it.  I

don’t have 2 men in my life that I would ask to move this TV, so something in my intuition said, just go for it with your daughter and see what happens. She was game as she wanted to get the TV out of her apartment (note it is 150 pounds and about 3.5 feet by 3.5 feet, so just a HUGE HEAVY BOX as you can see in the pictures!!)

We trekked over tonight, and I felt like somehow it was all meant to be, so I was kind of excited about the adventure. Firstly, the nice lady was an angel to allow us to try this and to help….then the nice maintenance man saw us with the TV and offered help into the car….and then it DIDN’T FIT IN THE BACK OF MY FOUR DOOR SEDAN. Honestly, I was about to give up at that point, but now the nice lady had her TV outside, and I am sure she didn’t want us to drag it back up again!!!! So they mentioned I should get a cab…but it didn’t fit into any normal and even one SUV cab we found (!!!???@#$%@#%$#$%).  So we called a big SUV cab and this VERY NICE man agreed to haul the TV alone while my daughter and I drove behind him to get back to my loft….

Angel #?? came over to help the cab driver lift it into the back of the SUV, and we were off….My daughter and I were able to use the dolly (that I got from a friend angel) and the story goes on…just angels popping up at just the right times….the TV is so huge once we got it home I was almost like, I am not sure if we can handle this in our loft but my daughter said oh yes….oh yes….we are keeping it=-)  So I hooked it up with the lovely Cable people on the phone, and it has really a nice picture!!!!!

What is my point…sometimes there are angels who come out of the woodwork and it is fun to take on adventures like this–if only to experience the goodness and kindness of humans….no words to express how nice all these people were….tears were shed and hugs were shared…..

Laverty Life Links: When have you climbed a big mountain and have literally felt like you were carried by angels throughout the process?  How was your life transformed as a result?

PS: Clearly we could afford a new flat screen TV with home delivery…but that wouldn’t be any fun, would it?! Well…. maybe the next time that would be a little fun=-)100_5383

Feeling beautiful and like a child of god…..

“I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”

– William Henley

This quote reminds me that we are each wholly unique and perfect just the way we are, and that it is up to us to create the life we want to live each day. We are the masters of our fate, along with our connection to our intuition and our God (or Universal spirit). Being grateful for our lives by embracing the spirit of this quote is the most empowering thing we can do when we wake up each day.

One of the ways I appreciate myself both inside and outside is through the following process (Gail Sussman Miller of Inspired Choice created this—thank you Gail for your wisdom=-)) Look at your right hand–yours is the only version of this exact hand on the planet … and it is your gift to the world.  Next time you shake someone’s hand, own the power and be proud of your authentic spirit.

Gail shared this with me when I was sharing my struggle with feeling truly beautiful on the outside at times (especially when I am with a man).  I feel like I am a child of god and wholly beautiful and unique on the inside, but that same feeling has eluded me for my externals  She shared this with me about two months ago and it has stayed with me…..deeply.  Now I feel like I am a child of god on the inside and the outside as is everyone else….we are all perfectly imperfect and just the way we are meant to be…..=-) Yea—I want to celebrate that!!! I am so grateful for the coaching and support I have received through the years.

Hula hooping naked–What would happen if you tried something new each week? Find out!=-)

I teach a class called Discover your Values and Create your Life Plan through Dabble and other venues, and the class inspires one to think about what their top four Values are and then listing out how to incorporate those value into one’s life!  As a sole parent to my 9 year old daughter, I have found that one of my top values of Adventure has been a bit more limited in its scope over the last decade=-)  More clearly said, as a mom I aimed to create a wonderfully adventurous life for my daughter—water parks, Great America, trips to Disney, local museum adventures…..yet they weren’t really the adventures of my 20’s=-)  I realized that I needed to incorporate more of my own version of adventures into my live/our lives…..

Over the last few weeks I have been looking for “new ways” to do things or new things to try professionally and personally.  It has been a lot of fun to dip my toe in different waters.  This blog is one of them by the way!!!

Last Friday I was up quite late working on my website and listening to Pandora and a really great song came on.  I thought, what the heck—I will dance to the song…..and I did.  Then I saw my daughter’s bright shiny new custom made hula hoop by a local hula hooping clown (Mr. Petey) and I thought, well, let’s see if I still have it…..=-) My bulky sweatshirt was getting in the way of mastering my hula hooping moves, so I took that off and hula hooped to the song under the moon in our beautiful city of Chicago……

It was so fun, and I felt a sense of joy and freedom over such a simple little mini at home adventure, but I will always remember that night and thinking, hey, I still got it=-)
